just the crappy results of high speed production. I get a lot of them that look like that. stamping the blank planchets with the coin die too fast causes the stretch marks seen above Lincoln's head. the thin copper plating of the coin just seems to help bring out the details of it.

(At least for our pennies)
So many Lincoln errors out there now, I'd say bury them all, but I'm digging too many as is.
