I don't mind digging pennies or any other current coins; I learn from every dig. Always hoping its an old one or two or three but no matter what it is I enjoy it.

This was my harvest for tonight's 3 hours of fun :)
I always keep in mind that I'm just beginning !

That's how I learned my machine, digging clads.
Keep up the good work!

Spend some time doing research and your "old" count will climb. It's a whole lot easier finding an old coin at an old site than one at a new site.

I have researched but I'm limited and the few people I have asked permission have told me NO. I can understand where they are coming from but when it's an old house just sitting in decay, then what could I hurt. Some people are just that' way and I can respect them. So I move on to the next place I find. I find that just talking to people in public can open doors too. Most appreciate the fact that you took the time to ask for permission in the first place :)

If your friends or coworkers don't know you MD you may drop it into conversations as your hobby. It has opened more than a few doors for me from random people and friends.

As so many old coins have already been retrieved over the years from parks, fair grounds etc. one thought about collecting clad is when you have enough to pay for an old coin you'd like at the coin dealer, you have money that's not from your monthly budget.

I never thought of it that way but on the other hand, the only way I want my coins is if I dig them myself. Thank you though :)

With your upbeat approach, you're gonna have lots of fun and many better finds! :icon_thumright: So far my son and I have detected only public beaches, parks, empty city lots, abandoned train track embankments, but no private property. And we've found much good silver, gold, medals of many types, 1840's dime, 1920's silver dollar, vintage toy vehicles, and lots more! Look for empty or overgrown lots with traces of old building foundations. Avoid any areas with underground electric cables or other hazards, whether detecting on private or public land. Besides the usual advice of library & internet reserch, talking to oldtimers about what used to be in various areas, also listen to the youngtimer teens and kids, as they are out & about and have given me many good tips. HAVE FUN! Andi
