Back at the mining camp again with snow flurries on and off. Pulling period items for 7 hours among the iron nets a 1911 Barber dime, 1903, 1905, 1884 Indian head cents, and one more trade token.

This aluminum trade token was hit by the disc so part of the first name and middle initial are almost gone. Front reads, "Joh? H(probably) Seiling Boone, Iowa". Back reads, "Good (illegible) 5c in cigars".

John Seiling, one of Boone’s prominent young business men, died suddenly at the Eleanor Moore hospital on Monday night at 10:55 o’clock from pneumonia. He had been ill but a few days and when he was taken to the hospital it was hoped that he would recover. He grew steadily worse until the end came.
The deceased was just thirty five years of age and had lived in Boone all his life. Upon the removal of his brother, Edward, to the west a few years ago he and his brother, Charles, took over the Pabst agency in this city and for the past two or three years the deceased had charge of the wholesale department and the business at Ninth and Keeler streets. He was successful in business and had made several excellent investments and the future looked very promising, but he was cut off before he had reached his prime. The deceased had a legion of friends as he was of a very generous nature, accommodating and courteous. To mourn his death are his aged mother and four brothers, Henry, Louis, Charles and Otto.
The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from his late residence, 1225 Sixth street, and was largely attended. Rev. Thomas Horton, pastor of Grace Episcopal church, conducted the services. The Elks and K. of P.’s, of which he was a member, attended in a body. The remains were laid to rest in Linwood cemetery. The Seiling family has the sympathy of the community in their hour of sorrow.

Interesting group of finds.

History of Boone County on Google books says John ran the wholesale department of his older brothers liquor business. The older brother was a special representative for Pabst brewers in Boone county.

They supplied the booze. :occasion14:
