Got out to a property that dates to the early 1700's for my second hunt. First hunt I got 2 old tombac buttons but not much else. Today I found 3 large cents!! Unfortunately the best one I scratched. Another person who was hunting with Lisa and I today found 2 croatal bells. I was so jealous but I did get a small piece of one.

Any thoughts on the last 2 pics? Looks like a piece of jewelry. It had a small ring on the top ring that would attach to a chain. I've never seen anything like it.

Nice large cents looks like one was used as hardware. :o :headbang:

As for the whatsit... :icon_scratch: :dontknow:

Keep @ it and HH !! ;D :D

wow, congrats on the 3 LC day.
never seen a four-holed copper before.
that is some funky glass, too.

Congrats, such nice oldies, Cool!

Good luck,
HH.

Great job, CntryDncr1!!

Large cents have avoided me for 30 years or more! I'm almost ready to believe that folks in my area were too poor to have 'em!! LOL!!
As for the jewelry, it appears to have (or have once had) stones mounted in it, but the way the loop for the chain is placed makes me think that maybe
it once had something hanging below the row of stones. Is there any sign of that? I've never seen a necklace that was that wide without anything
else hanging from it. I don't see how it would stay flat. Whatever it may be, it is cool and one heck of a great find, even if that had been all you found!

Great hunting and continued good luck!! Regards, skypilot02

Thanks everyone. I'm still amazed. prior to this I had only 2 other LCs and I think they are such cool coins. It is great when they come out with some detail on them. Now if I can just find a whole bell....

nice I am still waiting for my first large cent. I would keep hunting that spot.....Matt

Surfdigger pointed out to me that 1888's were IH not LC's so upon further inspection it looks like I have an 1838!! even better!

Hey Deb :hello: looks like youre off to a hot start with your E-trac!! way to go :headbang:

A good day in anyones book! :icon_thumright:

Nice recoveries ! You can't cry about hit coins :( I mean we are digging them from the ground and I nick my share ! Funny how it always seems to be the nicer coins though ! Grea finds ! MaineRelic

It is amazing how much a good detector can change the quality of an experienced detectorist!

Those finds are fantastic! I have not seen a large cent since last summer! >:( I thought there were none left in the region, but you proved me wrong!

I just found a nearly identical item about a week ago. Someone suggested part of a watch chain...the "stay" between the watch and the chain.

Here is mine from last week:
