I'll say this I do not believe all of these bikes and EP cars going up in flames is just over heating.
If one of the cells in a Lipo gets out of balance while charging them they will go up like a Roman candle, I'd think if a cell was out of balance and you go discharging it through use it would do the same.

being he just bought it, I would think so, but :dontknow:

He did have it running above 40 MPH for a Little ,
and ran it hard for those 3 Mile.
They may have Blamed it on him

Obviously internal combustion vehicles never catch on fire, so that means electric vehicles must be inferior. 🙄
Of course they do. However the idea that electric vehicles are some how superior is also incorrect. They both have their problems and their place.. And the biggest problem with an electric vehicle catching fire is there is no easy way to put the fire out. Particularly with newer batteries. They burn extremely hot.

My point is many believe electric vehicles to be the savior of our planet. And that is not true either. The materials needed to make batteries is just as likely to cause environmental problems as internal combustion engines.

No easy answers.

I believe that any alternative to fossil fuels is most definitely our savior. It takes time to perfect the technology and optimize the supply chain, but you cant write it off because it isn't instantly flawless. Also the mining of materials for batteries doesn't create anywhere near the environmental issue that's created by the entire planet burning fossil fuels. Its not even comparable.

The battery takes several cycles to break-in properly. Not supposed to run the battery down too low at first. I recall instructions saying to drive it around the block then recharge, repeat a few times.

I believe if you Live in a city & Wanna tool around town & Show off Your rich or woke or whatever. it may be ok.

Or if you like going where cars cant like Abandoned RR's,
Old mining roads & your getting too Old to Peddle it may be the way to go.

imo not a bright idea to get rid of a real car.
Especially if you have shopping, Mountains, Snow, & Ice
to contend with

for the most part electric vehicles and bikes will always be toys
as long as one charge doesn't equal 100,000 Miles,
Or you can Carry your Own Charger you don't need to find an empty plug for.
3 Minutes to Fill a Gas tank , How long for a full Charge !

How many People wanna go on Vacation & have to find a place
where you don't wanna stop, like the middle of Chicago, Charge & Take a Taxi for
a Hotel & or Meal midway there

or Travel 35 MPH or less, Checking your Batteries Temp !

between $500 to $900

In fact, when you're shopping for an e-bike, the battery is one of the most important considerations you must make. It's the most essential part (and typically, most expensive to replace) of your e-bike, costing you anywhere between $500 to $900 for a reliable battery.Jul 1, 2023

Good thing it happened where it did and not after a 2 1/2 mile ride and PARKED IN THE GARAGE.. and with owner now sitting inside smiling with glee from the cool ride ... sipping that ice cold Slurpee totally unaware.
. heh

Cost Of EV Batteries
A battery might cost between $4,000 and $20,000, depending on the brand and model of your vehicle. So, if you have owned the car for a while, and the warranty is void, you have no choice but to pay the asking price

Edited again ... :)
About six years ago I bought bike motor and battery. I paid about $550. Easy to install. Prices haven’t change much. The name is Voilamart. The battery is LiFePo4. I really like it. Put a lot of miles on it—thousands. Battery does not have the initial torque it had when new but it still goes good . Clocks it at 31 mph the other day with one of those roadside radar machines. Bicycles are dangerous. I had two close calls in crosswalks. Did a front wheel stand trying to stop. Don’t even think about riding without running lights.

Agreed... bicycles are in fact very dangerous.
And at 31 mph as you stated they might as well be a motorcycle at that point... eerrr wait...
***ARC scratches his head and thinks about "motor + Cycle"... hmmmm ***
if you wipe out or worse head on into something your gonna get similar injuries / damages.

IMO we will start seeing some regulations and more rules soon.

E-Bikes are banned from many apartment rental buildings. It seems that folks switch out the batteries for a stronger one, works great till it burns the place down, or just explodes.

"Fires caused by lithium ion batteries have claimed the lives of five people in Vancouver so far this year, according to officials.

The most recent death occurred Saturday after an explosion and fire that are believed to have been caused by an e-bike battery at the Empress Hotel, an SRO on the Downtown Eastside.

“(The victim) just happened to be sitting in the wrong place at the wrong time and he fell out the window due to the explosion," Asst. Chief Walter Pereira"

That definitely looks like internal combustion to me.
