Had a day detecting yesterday, one of my fav fields that l have been visiting over 20 years:and it's still delivering the goods: 3 silver coins, with a time span of 1737 years..
1 - Silver Roman. Commodus. AD191/2 struck in Rome. HERCVL ROMAN AVGV.
1 - CUT HALF PENNY. Henry 111 from AD 1207/1272.
1 - Silver Shilling King George V from 1929.
a very cold but satisfying day out, you can't beat it !!

That's a whopping time span! That's a claim I'll never be able to make on this continent.

Can't be much better! :occasion14: Very well done!

Outstanding day out sir ! For most of us , that would be one of the finest outings in years !!! Argentium.

Awesome. It was always good for me to find a silver coin. :icon_thumright:
Congratulations.

 That's a pretty scarse Commodus one you don't often see, the obverse depicts Commodus head right, wearing lion's skin, the reverse legend, HERC VLI RO MANO AVG in four lines seperated by a club....Refers to Commodus, who in his madness, styled himself as the Roman Hercules. He is shown as such on the obverse, with his head covered by a lion's skin.
What's even more unusuall about yours, is the reverse is depcited in three lines, not four.:icon_scratch:...You don't think it may be a forgery.:dontknow:

those are fantastic. congrats!

Simply amazing, Those finds tell you one thing that never changed throughout time, humans loosing money!!!

You had a Great day, that might be a record time span for coins on a single day.:hello2: Can anyone beat it?

Nice looking coins. Are your finds random drops or was there a road or area of habitation where you find your coins? Have you ever located and excavated trash pits similar to Bill D's post here http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...ly-colonial-pit-dig-finds-long-lots-pics.html ?
I think that there may well be places that would be the sort of thing you are talking about here. but the way the farmers turn round their crops so fast and the amount of hard digging involved would make that kind of digging impossible for a loner like me, l actually started bottle digging back in the 70s and now i'm in my 70s too and it would be too much.... But this particular site l'm sure the coins are indeed random losses over time(a lot of time)......Hutch.

Nice Roman, I need that one.

Any silver is good, 3 is bettter.....

Earlier this year when on the field next to this one the span was
1 - Quarter Gold Stater from Morini Tribe. from 70BC.
2 - Sixpence from 1938. (year l was born)
