Detector(s) used
Fisher F75
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Got out to a Baltimore City park this afternoon and detected for 4 hours. The F75 audio was acting up, sort of in and out with the headphones but I could hear enough to get on with it. The hunt today was with discrimination set to 4, so I was hearing most of the iron. The silvers on the day are the thimble piece, cross, and 1946 Washington quarter. Numerous deep relics were recovered. Not sure what they all are but among these is a utensil handle, a lantern part, melted lead, and a part of a key. The key part has the letter "M" hand-stamped on one side.
A great time out hunting an area that has been "hammered" by a number of detectorists.

Thanks for checking out the pics. HH and GL!

Good stuff there Mac,, congratulations on the
Silver Quarter.

Nice...leave it up to McD to pull multiple silvers out of a pounded site! Congrats on a great day...Ddf

A silver thimble, My bucket list!! Congrats on the finds Mike :icon_thumleft:

Nice finds, especially the quarter.

Thx ATW! That quarter was so deep I thought for sure it would be an SLQ or earlier. Good to see silver in the hole.

Thx Ddf! I stuck to my grid search and was seeing plugs all over. That quarter was in an area that saw a lot of activity. It did not sound like a quarter to me but then I was digging pretty much everything repeatable and deep.

Thx Ken! Looks like I'll be sending the F75 back for repair, so I'll be switching to the Etrac.

Thx Johncoho! The cross had a lot of iron stains on it; looks like the chain or what attached it to the chain was iron.
On cleanup, I found the "M" on the key handle. Room "M"?

Nice finds McCdig. The stamped key with the letter M, may have been a key for the maintenance department for the park system.

The eyelet on the threaded shaft is to a drawer pull. The part that goes in the wood to hold the bail handle. ca 1900

That was a very nice hunt you had with a nice variety of finds! Good luck on your next hunt!

Thx Smokey! That piece was a "head scratcher" and now I can say "Exactly!". Appreciate that. :)

Mike, Congrats on another great day out. You're really in the zone now for silver. Hope to meet up this weekend to try and keep your steak going. I know we haven't even covered a eighth of that field yet, so there is probably a lot more where that came from.

Thx Jamie,
Plugs everywhere and the quarter came from a plug-rich area.

That cross sure looks like it might be silver. :icon_scratch:
Love the brass relic with the letter 'M' on it, beautiful vertigris, looks like it used to be a key.

Thx Dave! Will test the cross, but I agree with you, it looks like silver. A relic with writing on it is one of my favorite finds.

Thx Trezurehunter! There was a hotel up a very short distance from this spot. I've heard it said that there was a tavern very near this spot. All likely possible sources.

Thx Scruggs! I've been on a little silver streak for now and that's encouraging. Good luck and happy hunting.
