If you can find the Land Ranger Pro for $300 or under...it is IMO the best price to performance ratio you can get. No other machine has the feature set or performance it does at $300.
It has a good pin-point feature that will do until you get a hand held pin-pointer. However, I am with the group that feels a handheld pointer should be a priority sooner or later. Makes life easier and cuts recovery time in half. Being in a hurry has nothing to do with it...recovering more targets in the allotted digging time does. As always...to each their own. I love the new school.
The ship has just about sailed on it for $300 and under...so shop fast and smart if you go the LRP route. Amazon and most dealers have raised it to $400 after being $280 for months....even as low as $228 before the holidays.
It loses some appeal at $400...but still beats many detectors in that range as well.
Manual and auto ground balance....
11 inch DD coil....
Adjustable notch and notch width...
7 total search modes including an all metal mode that shows ID....
Pin-point feature....
4 tones including VCO...
Adjustable volume....
Very light-weight and can swing all day no problem....
Hits a quarter at 8 inches in just about all but the worst soil....air tests a quarter at a foot.
Not many detectors do all that for $400...yet alone $300.
Best of luck with your friends decision whatever you guys choose.
