Well I had a pretty interesting day today at lunch going around to some new banks. I asked for half dollars at one bank, and they told me they had $900 of Ike Dollars on hand. They sold me a box of dimes without an account, so I figured the least I could do is take some of those hopefully peace dollars off their hands, so I bought $340 that came in $20 rolls. In addition to the dime box I also got there, I picked up $200 in loose brinks rolls at another bank, and $150 in paper rolls at another bank. An interesting story, I dumped $1k before picking up, and the teller accused me of passing a counterfeit $100. I told her I literally just picked it up 5 min ago from another BOA branch down the street. She asked for another, or else she'd have to call the secret service and take my bill. She said the translucent face in the bill was slightly different than usual. Then she told me it's different for each series, and accepted my bills. I knew they were real, and the strip in the bill was a "100" strip, so it was impossible that it was washed. She obviously just watched some show on the history channel last night about counterfeit money, so she is suddenly an expert. I felt kind of embarrassed, but I knew it was real, and that she was an idiot. I have half a mind to complain to the district manager, that their tellers need to be educated on currency before accusing customers. The bill came from the same bank at a different branch.

So anyway here were my results:

$340 Ike Dollars:
Skunk (Although I still want to weigh some of them that were iffy, but i'm pretty sure these are dumps. Who knows where he ordered them from.)

Dimes Box 1 (Brinks):
Skunk

$200 Loose Brinks Dime Rolls:
Skunk

BUT THEN....

$150 Loose Paper Dime Rolls:
1x 1940 Merc
2x 1943 Merc
1x 1944 Merc (Beautiful)
1x 1945 Merc
1x 1947 Rosie
1x 1950 Rosie
1x 1951 Rosie
1x 1952 Rosie
2x 1960 Rosie
2x 1961 Rosie
1x 1962 Rosie
4x 1963 Rosie
4x 1964 Rosie

I thought I was going to get skunked on all my coins I picked up, and these paper rolls were throwing 2-3 per roll at me. One roll had 2 mercs side by side. I coulden't beleive it. I got more today off of $150 than I did the past 2 weekends that I cleared $2k. Needless to say I thanked the big guy upstairs before I even finished opening all the rolls.

Here is some eye candy for you guys:

Going to clear $2k more in dimes tomorrow, and definitely hitting the bank with the paper rolls up. They will be getting cleaned out. 5 Mercs says to me silver vein.
Hope you all find some silver as well.

HH all!

Ikes are worth about 1.30 each to the right person. I've unloaded several batches of 100 for a 30% return on my investment. I'd look into that if i were you. awesome score!

Re: $340 Ike Dollars, $600 Dimes JACKPOT

Luv those dime scores, congrats!

Re: $340 Ike Dollars, $600 Dimes JACKPOT

nice score but do you really line up all your stash pre-inspection every time and have a photo session? ???

I do that post search with my finds now once a week.

Re: $340 Ike Dollars, $600 Dimes JACKPOT

nice score on those dimes and that '44 merc is very nice.

And I think that teller was way out of line "accusing you of passing a counterfeit $100" and threatening to call the "secret service" to have the bill confiscated. That is a simply outrageous accusation and I would have definitely spoke to the bank manager about that and told him/her exactly what she said and where you just got the bill. No employee anywhere (esp. not at a bank) should be accusing customers of committing or violating federal crimes without damn good evidence to support their accusations. If it was as you stated she should lose her job for that on the spot.

That teller was WAAAAAAAAAAAAy out of line.

Go clean them out, even if you have to take your wife to buy more dimes.

Nice scores!!!!!!! I'd love to have a week like that!!!!!

Re: $340 Ike Dollars, $600 Dimes JACKPOT

I lined those up after they were searched. As for the teller who accused me, she was relatively nice about it, but I think it was because I was so quick to say that I got it from another BOA branch 10 min ago, she knew she was wrong. But still, she made me give her a different 100 bill because she wasn't sure. I won't complain, but next time it happens i'm going to interrupt her, and tell her to bring the branch manager over. I'm pretty sure the manager would have told her she was sadly misinformed about the bill being illegitimate. I agree that she should be DAMN SURE before throwing that accusation out there.

We like the variety of our search. were still always amazed as to what can be found in the wild.
Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!

Well since I obviously wasn't there I don't know exactly what was said but bank employees accusing customers of passing counterfeit money and threatening to confiscate their money and call the authorities is a very serious matter and should be treated in a serious way. Counterfeiting is a very serious federal crime and this teller is neither qualified nor authorized to be making such outrageous accusations and threats to customers. I don't know what the exact protocol is for a bank employee in this situation but she should of probably called a supervisor to deal with the situation if she thought that the bill might be suspicious or possibly counterfeit. And if she really thought it might be counterfeit then telling you to just keep the bill and give her another is not the proper thing to do either. She clearly handled this situation improperly in every way. This woman obviously has no idea what she is doing and the last place she should be working is at a bank.

I'm usually the last person to suggest hiring a lawyer (unless it's absolutely necessary) but if someone at a bank is making outrageous threats against me and accuses me of committing or violating a fedreal crime then I would consider this a very serious matter and I would have strongly considered seeking legal advise (maybe making a few phone calls from right there at the bank if possible) or maybe even calling the police/authorities myself to at least get some kind of official record and/or testimony of exactly what she said.

Employers are responsible for the conduct of their employees and this seems to be a clear example of gross misconduct on the part of the bank employee and she is a potential huge liability to the bank in the future. Her losing her job is probably a minor issue in this situation. You would probably be doing the bank a huge favor by notifying the manager of this situation because if this teller says something similar like this to the wrong person in the future then the bank could possibly be facing a huge multimillion dollar lawsuit for similar types of gross misconduct and outrageous false accusations made by this employee. I guarantee you many people would not be as forgiving as you about this and quite frankly nor should they be.

And btw, just because she may have been "relatively nice about it" is completely irrelevant. If someone walks up to you and hits you on the head with a shovel - then just because they might be smiling at the time doesn't make it right.

Anyway - again nice score on the dimes and HH

SilverFace, you make several valid points that I did not consider at the time, because I knew I was innocent. If it ever happens again, I will not be as polite about it. You are right, it's a federal crime. I think it would be prudent in the future to call over a bank manager to clear it up immediately. If she decides to be little miss detective and fill out a SAR on me or something, it would be best to ensure there is a record of what actually happened, not just what she says happened. I can't believe I overlooked all of those possibilities, but I was unconcerned at the time because I knew there was no way the bill was counterfeit. I think you are absolutely right when you say it's not something I should be so passive about, as her stupidity could cause me a lot of problems if not addressed with the proper attention. Especially in our hobby where we constantly exchange currency, it could look more suspicious than it actually is. Thanks for the nugget of wisdom, it will come in handy in the future.

Best Regards

To be honest I'm not quite sure how I would of reacted or exactly what I would have done in this situation either beyond asking to speak to a manager because I would have been just as surprised as you probably were if this had happened to me. I don't know if this teller is just so completely clueless and incompetent or maybe she is just so completely arrogant and thinks she can say what she did because you weren't wearing a tie and jacket and didn't look like a VIP. But she needs to understand that she should conduct herself in an appropriate and professional manner with every customer and not just say whatever she may be thinking at any time. Otherwise she is liable to get herself and possibly the bank into a lot of trouble in the future.

Btw, what is even more ridiculous is the notion that just some Federal Reserve Notes might be counterfeit while others aren't. The truth is ALL Federal Reserve Notes are counterfeit and have been so for the past 40 years that the U.S. has not been on a gold standard. It doesn't matter whether they are printed by the Federal Reserve or a private citizen - they are all virtually worthless and the only value they really have is just an illusion that won't continue to last much longer. As soon as our creditors wake up to the fact that they have been complete suckers for decades then everyone will realise that any currency with the words - Federal Reserve Note - is in fact counterfeit and virtually worthless. But that is a whole nother matter that I won't get into here.

Continued success to you & HH
