I have the 3x18 coil and I like it very much. I have been hunting beaches with it for the last 2 months. I average 6-7 hours a hunt. I don't have the 12x10, but I plan to buy one down the road. I weighed my Silver Umax with 3x18 coil and it was just over 2 1/2 pounds.

I bought mine from Joe Snow (fellow tnetter) earlier this month and have had the opportunity to use it twice. It is a little heavier than the standard coil that comes with the Cortez but it is still easy to swing. I was pleasantly surprised that it didnt really throw the balance of the machine off and how well it works. It was worth the money for me to purchase. If you have wide open areas that you want to check, this coil is the only way to go. TMAN...

How well does the 3X18 coil work coinshooting? Or is this coil primarily for relic hunting?

I found quite a few coins in a school yard a little over a week ago. It sings on them just like anything else. Pinpointing is real easy so its just dig and go. TMAN...
