So I recently revisited a camp I discovered in the woods early last year. There's a small window to hunt in the woods due to hunters and then too overgrown in the spring and summer. I found 50 bullets so far over four day period, which is a lot considering I thought there was maybe 10 or so at best left to find. I've also dug a lot of camp lead or melted lead, but very little brass. I did find a gs cuff button my first trip back out this year.

So last Thursday I go back and dig one hole where I'm just digging tons of melted lead out, well little did I know when I got home and cleaned my finds, that one piece was not melted lead...instead this was shiny, but not aluminum. It's heavy for its size and left a slight black residue on my fingers when I cleaned it with water and baking soda, like a tarnished silver would. I'm no professional, but I think what I have appears to be a silver cap or crown for a tooth.

I'd love to hear others thoughts and opinions. Thanks for looking and HH!

wow, that's quite a pile of bullets! Nice finds! Silver thing - no idea!

Sure looks like a crown, maybe when the poor guy bit down on the bullet for pain it broke his tooth. Nice pile of lead and the silver crown.

Now just find the bullet with the same grooves as the tooth!

I can't imagine what else it could be bud. Very interesting find

I don't know about the silver thing but you pulled some great looking drops out of there!

Steve

Spit on it then wrap in in aluminum foil. Wait about 10 seconds then open it up, if it has a sulphur like smell its silver.

I wonder why this works so well?

Th at a nice big Ole pile of lead you have!
That silver item is intriguing

nice pile of lead, good luck on the possible silver

Not sure if it's a crown/cap but it's sure shaped like you would expect one to look. That's a very cool find.

Matt, Dman found one of those in a US CW camp in Arkansas but it looked like a temporary crown and was the color of a tooth. You dug a lot of lead. WTG, Q.

I looked it up and they did and still do make a silver crown or cap. Obviously not pure silver, but it was silver and other metal mixture. I thought at first melted silver coin or jewelry, but it did not have the characteristics of being in a fire or melted.

You should do that simple test I posted about earlier. Dying to know if it is actually silver.

You said you found it with melted lead, maybe it's a melted silver coin.

I thought this at first, but some said it looked like a tooth and it does resemble that of a cap or crown.
