It is starting to bother me that I can find all this clad and the silver coins are not coming in! I am easily hitting dimes at 6-7 inches even with the small coil. I would go for depth with the stock coil but I need the separation. Little longer hunt than my usual 3 hours...went 4 today...81 coins, $5.07 in clad and a watch that came up as penny/dime than quarter.

That's a bunch'a diggin, Gregg! :o I bet you're totals are adding up fast! I went out last week to a park and thought about the 100 coins day....only made it to 75. :P

Congrats on your finds and hope ya hit some silver soon! Nana :)

Definitely adding up fast! I wonder where the silvers are hiding from you at??? Good diggins anyway though! :D

Gregg,
Congrats on the 81 coins and the watch. The silver will come.

What type of places are you hunting and are you researching sites or just heading out. The reason I ask is when I started with my DFX I cut my teeth in parks and dug everything. I wanted to learn about my detector, how to recover a coin without damaging it and proper technique for swinging, overlapping and speed. The first month or two I had nothing but clad. After I felt comforable I started doing research at the local library and that is when the silver started coming in. Now I usually find at least one silver coin if that is what I'm looking for that day.

I thought all the parks in my area were hunted out (yes, I know that is never true). With a little research I was able to find areas that were used in the past but are now overgrown or just difficult to reach. One picture alone lead to a handful of silver including a few half dollars.

Check out local history books or what I found very helpful is searching for old postcards on ebay. On those old cards they usually show old buildings that were new at the time and group gatherings which both can produce coins. If you have access to Sanborn maps they are very helpful in finding old home sites. One site I found with these maps I just started to scratch the surface and found an old railroad key with an old looking spigot. No coins yet but I know they are there.

Good luck

Still a nice haul, that clad looks like it has been there for awhile! HH, Mike

Nice Finds there Gregg!! I haven't found any silver coins either, of course, I'm hunting places I don't expect to find them (playgrounds).

Don't feel bad, I only got 38 clad coins today for 2 1/2 hours. But I did get my 7th ring this year...a silver one.
I can't even begin to try to match your coin count on any day. :) You rock on total coin count each time you go out!!!!!

USE THE DEEP SILVER SETTING WITH YOUR AJUSTMENTS YOU PROGRAM WATCH FOR +90 TO 95 READINGS.
WHEN I HIT MY 3 SILVER COINS IT HIT +94

DAVID GOOD LUCK

Great finds, a lot of work but as said above, the silver will come. Good luck

If you are hitting 75....I know how to get you to 100! :) Try counting as you go! If there are 75 coins where you are hunting there definitely will be another 25! Also I mentioned this on another post...One day when I came home and counted 94... >:( >:( I was so mad I went back out just to make the 100! <<<I had worked way to hard and dug to many holes not to have 100! If I want 100 I can usually get it in 4 hours. I do pop coins when they are shallow. So what I was trying to say is>>> ;D a second trip during the same day when you are close will do it!!! :) 8) But make sure you go to a productive site!

Mainly hunting modern parks within driving distance on way home from work. But I will hit some older sites when I am in area thanks! :)

Lots of digging there Greg, hard work.

38 is not bad...I count sometimes as I go along...sometimes money sometimes coins. When I count coins I try to get to 100, like today...but it was not easy getting to 81 in 4 hours.... I hit 18 in 1/2 an hour by a tree and two of the quarters were on the surface which helped. The dimes I find are all over from 0.0 to 7.5!! Thats right ven with the small coil I get as deep as 7.5 on the dimes. Using the eclpse 5.3, is this what you have on your m6?<<<For coins it should be! :)

Thanks I think i am sore all the time from a combination of digging and swinging... But I am sore again! :( Maybe it was that extra hour. My count was low for 3hours, the 4th hour helped....

Great finds. There must be silver close by.

Gregg,
The 5.3 Eclipse, is the coil I use mostly on my M6, and I ordered a Excelerator 4.5 X 7DD coil, from K-Co. and waiting on it.

I don't worry about a coin count, I just go and get excercise and have some fun with it. It is supposed to be a hobby..right??? Aren't you supposed to have fun with a hobby?? Try not to make it so much like a job, and have to get 100 coins.

Maybe..... you might just get lucky and find some silver, or a gold ring. It won't add to your clad count, but 1 silver or gold item, beats 100 clad..........at least it does for me.

I'm definetley at a spot for silver coin's as well Gregg, clad at 6" or better and still no silver.Although I'm using an MXT shouldn't matter...I'm finding silver in the ring form but that's it.One of these day's....Congrat's on the pile of clad and good luck, gotta be there somewhere...HH!!
