5/18/12 beach finds

I got out for 3 hours today, 2 good finds were a .55 caliber musketball,and a lead weight from a scabbard either a cutlass or dirk. they used these to keep the scabbard from flopping while riding horseback or on wagons. 3 lbs of sinkers,2 net anchors (15 lbs each),3 ships spikes,2 outboard motor pieces,and alot of large iron bolts and nails. water was nice.

there was another railroad track connector too but the float was already loaded so I left it. I also ran into one of those spots late in the dive that every time I laid the detector down to dig the hit it was screaming again. I will definately be going back to that spot. those net weights are pretty old and are artifacts in their own right. if there is a commercial fishing museum somewhere they might want them. besides every so often you clear out a huge item and a small one is being masked by it. I always move the biggies and recheck the area.

I didn't mean to sound as though I was rubbishing your finds, I'm not. It was purely a comment on size & weight, ie. they would not fit in my pouch. I'm guessing you carry 1 at a time back to the truck?

I know that crusader, I was just letting the newbies know about moving things and rechecking, plus that huge piece might just be worth something to someone. you have been very good to me and alot of others over the years in identifying artifacts, so no harm done at all.
