its a rare thing to find another person who like the same things you do --sadly many folks build great collections --be it relics or coins -- and the ONLY INTERESTS -- other family members --wifes , kids and others have in the collection is "WHAT CAN I GET FOR IT MONEY WISE? when old hubby , uncle or gramps kicks the bucket

My X's grandfather was a prisoner, somewhere in the south, we never found out where, but after the war and he was freed, he weighed something like 85 pounds, but he lived for a long time, although it ruined his health and he was in a wheel chair. Her father was darn near 80 when she was born, he lived to well over 100, forget now, but it was 103 or 4. I figured it out one time, and her grandfather, had they been in the proper location, could have met Thomas Jefferson. Of course her grandfather was long gone before she was born, but still, it was mind blowing to me. My great grandfather was a veteran, 191st OVI, and a great uncle was a pvt. in the 81st OVI at the Battle of Shiloh, and was wounded at Corinth, Miss. during the fight shortly after Shiloh. That qualified him to be an officer, because after he recovered, he re-upped and was appointed a 1st Lieutenant in the 151st Ohio. Interesting stuff, and I didn't pay much attention when I was a kid.

I recently acquired this book written in 1924. Bought it at an estate auction. It was in a group with some local history books that I was actually after. I love those old books like you were given. Nice find

The stories of old timers are some of the greatest treasures I've ever found.

What a great story! Made my day. As I am a 16 year old I personally see how people don't care about the history and stories of past generations. They really have a lot to teach and should be listened to.

Im betting Andersonville or Blackshear.

Good god, man... To have seen that firsthand.
