Are the shank pieces pliable? Easily bent? Rigid?

If pliable it could be part of a hat badge.

If rigid, maybe a broken Edwardian cufflink? Although it seems a bit big for that...

The edge damage is also curious... Maybe something was attached there, like a loop or a hook...

They are rigid. This property I found an 1859 Federal Enlisted Cavalry boot spur. But the home built in early 1800s. Found this out in a field.

They are rigid. As far as I'm willing to try to bend, it doesn't seem to move easily. This property I found an 1859 Federal Enlisted Cavalry boot spur. But the home built in early 1800s. Found this out in a field.

The back has a brushable corrosion or packed dirt over a soft milky white material that when scraped away is shiny. Lead backed? What does that mean.?

Typically, if it's something common the goats on here chime in quick with verifiable pics. It appears to have lead in the base. And the tangs look like they were one piece and pulled straight and snip/ripped apart.

I don't think so either. If I had to place a bet, I would still bet that it is a benchmark pin.
