9x8" coil on Silver UMax

Does the 9x8 coil really make a difference on the Silver???? If so, in which way? I'd like to get more depth than I get with the stock coil(4 to 5 inches)
Example: I buried a clad quarter 6 inches deep bout six months ago and don't get a signal at all with my detector and stock coil. Tried all combos of disc and sens, even all metal mode,,,,nada,,,,nothing. I love the Silver Umax and have made some good finds with it but am sure it could look deeper.....Should I send it in for a tune up????? Any ideas????
Thanks in advance....HH....TC

Don't know about the 9x8 but if I was going to spend money on a coil I would get the 10x12.

I've got a Cutlass II which is pretty much the same as the Silver. I really didn't like the stock coil, so I used the 9x8 off of my Eldorado and it really made a difference. I think pinpoiting is much easier off the front of the coil instead of hitting center on the stock. If I were going to buy another coil, I agree with RPG and would get the 10x12.

I own the 10 x 12, and it is a better coil than the stock coil.

I have the uMax with the stock coil and you should definitely be able to find that quarter. I can find it at 10". You could have a small piece of iron masking it. Even a steel staple or BB can mask a quarter. I'd try burying another quarter in a spot that I completely cleared in the all metal mode.

There's a really good thread on here about the effects of iron masking. I'd recommend you try and find that thread. It's eye opening.

Thanks for posting that. Not sure it's the problem but it could be. It's good info either way.

Very good info from you all,,,,,Maybe I need to refine my techniques a bit but I'll still send the umax in for a tune up this winter
Thanks,,,TC
