i use a silver umax with the brown 8 inch coil. i just bought a 9x8 coil for it, my question should i send it in to tesoro along with my new 5.75 to make sure they are set up properly or are they close enough. i only ask because ive read in here that if a machine dont have manual ground balance a new coil may not get the depth until you send it in with the machine. this is a fantastic machine by the way. and it is pretty deep now. thanks for any help.

You should not need to do that Bass,

If bought as designed for that machine, everyone swaps them at will.

Seems to me internal adjustments could be made in the machine to optimize it for a coil, but that would have to be done with each coil, every time you swapped.

If you note falsing, or some erratic behaviour, it would be good to stop, and send it in though!

Look up EasyMoney... He seems to be very qualified on such subjects. Moreso than I!

You should not need to send it in for calibration unless you went inside and played with the sensitivity pot. But Easy Money would explain it well. I haven't had my coffee yet this morning.

The only time a detector needs calibration is if the detector itself has been changed due to somebody "tweeking it" or due to aging components.

All Tesoro coils are exactly engineered to work perfectly with the models they were made for.

Lack of ground balance can mean chatter with the factory preset models. This chatter happens in very hostile soils such as gravel driveways. And too the larger coils pick up more electrical intreference because they're more sensitive. So, turn down the sensitivity in those areas.

If you plan to exclusively hunt one certain area and at that area you get lots of falsings, call Tesoro and make arrangements to send the detector in with the coil you plan to use. NOW, this is VERY important! send them a small bag of the very soil that causes your machine to false. They will tune the machine and coil to that precise soil.

Myself I've never had to do this as the Silvers and all Tesoros have worked great no matter what coil I used or where I used them. But some people have had to do this due to extreme soil conditions.
