Started the 4th off with an early morning hunt to a school where I have been hunting for 15 years and have pulled a pocket full of silver, IH's, Buffalo's, etc over the years. It's the first place I go when I want to test a new coil or detector. It is "hunted out", by me. I hit it hard over the recent years with the Sovereign GT. So I attach the new SE Pro coil and start swinging right away, first target of the day, a 1943-D Mercury, followed quickly by a 1944 Wheatback. Helped the wife with her new ACE 250 a little, headed back over to my little silver mine and dug a 1948-S Rosie. Just as things are looking like it's going to be a great day, I look over to see a female security guard attempting to lock us into the school ground . . . yes I said "Into". We ran over before she could do so and she informs me that starting this year, all schools in our city are off limits to the public because of vandalism and that I was trespassing, and if we didn't leave she would call the police and take our detectors away. She obviously did not understand our state law, section 602 of the California Penal Code and was exhibiting a serious attitude. it's ashamed but we had to leave and now I will never be able to return again. I grew up in this town, went to all of the schools and worked as a police officer in my hometown for 4 years before jumping ship to the fire department. Our town has become so overrun with crime that we can't even enjoy our schools anymore, they are all apparently locked down for good now. Starting about 2 years ago we had a huge inflow of the criminal element and now we are starting to see graffiti everywhere. I guess it was bound to happen. There are some areas in our previously peaceful little town where you can't metal detect because they will rob you and take your metal detector, that's no joke.
Anyways, she kind of ruined the day for us. As for the coil, I am very impressed, ran the SENS at 25 with no problems whatsoever. All 3 coins were very deep and the wheatback was an iffy signal. Also I have found 2 of those little finger squeeze pin backs at depth. This coil really hears the small stuff. Tommorrow I will take the new 12" Sunray out for a spin.
Way to start the day off!!
