Detector(s) used
Whites coinmaster
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I have a Whites Prism 2, I was out detecting the other day at an old church picnic grove and I got a solid hit for a dime. After digging a hole the size of my coil and about 8 inches deep, I can find nothing with my pinpointer, if I sweep it with the detector it's still there, the pointer works fine. Any thoughts on this ? It already seems to be a major excavation for a lousy dime.

I would believe the target is larger than a dime..

That's a thought, maybe I'll go back after it, but the deeper I go the rockier it gets.

When I switch to all metals it still comes up as a dime.

bust the halo with a shovel. or its a very large dime ...

chub

Went back today and dug 4 inches deeper and the signal disappeared completely !!!

Your detector is telling you it is something (or multiple things) with the same relative conductivity as a dime. Could be larger and deeper.

Try sweeping from different approach angles and lifting the coil a bit between passes.

But the only way to know is dig and keep a mental record of how what it was reacted.
