✅ SOLVED A brass something or other

[Older The Better]

Found today in a field near a barn that’s been gone for 70 years or so.
Says
American injector co. Detroit Mich

Oddly it was ringing up like a quarter almost into the silver range, the all brass construction has me iffy if it’s a tractor part, usually if I found a big hunk of brass I’d be thinking plumbing.

Can anyone set me straight.

It is an automatic grease cup. There was a spring under the piston in the cup that kept a small steady flow to the shaft. The engine or shaft did not have to be shut down to be lubed. Used a lot on the crank end of early engines piston rods. American injector was one of the best!

Thanks for the insight so far. And appreciate the picture from the catalog, I missed that when I was looking earlier.

So being all brass is that any clue as to age or what it came off of? I can’t say I’ve looked closely but I haven’t noticed brass parts on any machines I’ve encountered.

It could be utilized on just about anything that has stationary or movable bearings. I think the old Hit & Miss" engines had them. They still make that same style today.
