This is the first earring I’ve found it was out in the middle of the woods. I’ve got more cleaning to do but I thought I’d get it posted, any info would be awesome. Haven’t done anything but give it a soft tooth brush to get the dirt out of the design. It Read more as copper but have to think it’s gold of some quality because all copper around here turns green and brass a kinda yellow-brown.

Could be I just figured the size and the slight curve was more earring like but what do I know… I guess if it’s hard to judge I’d say it’s somewhere between the size of a dime and a penny

Had a relative that used to bring the boy scouts out to camp, that was my first impression, but seems more jewelry like now that it’s clean.

How the pin attaches and the clasp might help determine the approximate age. I'll try to post a diagram tomorrow to help. Are there any markings on back?

Damn, didn't get time to find and post the diagram. Please take and post a close up picture of the back looking straight down.

Thanks for the extra pictures. Attached are a pair of graphics to help with dating. The button appears to have a round hinge and I can't tell about the catch.

It is a very plain center with ornate edging. I wonder if something had been applied to the center originally, and fell off. Possibly it was intended to be engraved with an Initial. I would also say 1960s-ish

Thanks for the general date ranges.

As for the center, When it first came out of the ground I thought there was a film on the face of it, I suspected it was a backing from something like a glass stone, but it came off as easy as the loose dirt, dissolved all the way off under the tap, made me think maybe it was just some kind of gunk from the ground.
