went to an abandoned school which is about 40 miles from my house on a whim. Pulled a nice chunk of clad and some other odds and ends but was getting bored with the modern stuff. plus it was HOTTTTT!!!!, IMG01205-20130616-0418.webpso at 730 i bailed and on my way home i decided to go up the road a little farther and search for an old farmhouse to hunt. Well low and behold, i found a gem of a house with the owner sitting on the front porch. After introducing myself we got to talking about his property. The man was 87 yrs old and said he was born in the house, plus his parents built it which i would bet it makes it at least late 1800s. When i asked permission to detect it he said that i could but it was searched over last month and i wouldnt find anything. I was kinda bummed i missed out on being the first one to hit it but i figured no one ever finds everything. At this point i was about 46 miles away from home, nah im not obsessed with this hobby lol. So I went in pro mode and dug everything. I only dug 9 targets in an hr and found some goods! a 1945 merc, and 2 wheats (1914, 1945) plus the other junk you see in the pic. IMG01206-20130616-0419.webpIm not sure what the handful of little round things were, they were about 6 inches deep and theres a ton more in the plug, but i got bored pulling em out lol. That merc was about 6 inches as well and was giving a wierd signal. I forgot to note the numbers but there was some junk wire in the hole with it which gave a grunt in one direction and a sweet high tone in the other, when i showed the owner he said wow im surprised you found anything, the other fellas were here for hours!, just goes to show ya cant hunt out a site in just a few hours!! thanks for looking and HH!!

nice finds congrats HH

No place is ever hunted out. The little round objects are some kind of nuts. I think they were used in electrical applications.

i thought thats what they were at first but the inside is threaded, i agree w the above post that said they were some sort of electrical nut

I have gone back to spots that I know I have covered well, and still find stuff...Some of these sites I have been hitting since 2005...Your coil cannot hit every square inch of soil (probably ever in your lifetime).
DD coils cover more ground than concentrics, but if you do not tightly overlap your swings, you are still missing ground. This is why we preach low and slow...

HH,

Nice finds!! HH Finman

HH,

yeah ive learned that lately. Now im kinda like a maniac, i swing that thing back and forth and imagine myself painting the lawn with it, takes a bit longer but i feel better that i covered as much as possible

Awesome finds!
So its only 46 miles away from ya huh, that must mean your heading back, I know I would be?!?
The two before you left you that imagine what else they left and he stuff you missed!!
By the looks and sounds of it, you might have found yourself a good new spot!!

Good Luck and HH! :icon_thumright:

Nice finds!! That is exactly the visual I use as well. I hate to leave a hard-earned spot, wondering if I've missed something.

That old saying about no place is hunted out is true ! I hunted a patch of ground repeatedly on different occasions and still found
obvious targets after having put my coil over the same areas ( i'm convinced of this ) however in the interest of absolute truth , we must
acknowledge that a small coin only takes up whatever diameter it is , and no matter how thoroughly you think you are sweeping - there
is going to be some overlap .
