Sunday morning looked sullen, cloudy. Eh. Let's go metal detecting.
Visited my little area where I found the merc and some wheaties on Friday and some silvers last year and was greeted by tons of wet, sloppy snow everywhere. Mike, aware of my intentions, called for an update. Snowy with tons of sloppy mud. Heavy snow that sticks to your coil and weighs the --deleted-- down. The kind of crap that can really make a guy cuss like a sailor.
Turns out he is heading over to the Trash Pit. I thought to myself, how bad would it be to swing in this mess, in an area as productive as the Pit? What a tease. I thought about the prospect all of two seconds before I packed up my gear and headed thataway.
Upon arrival, I was greeted not by snow and mud, but by glorious beautiful turf- mostly dry- and a newfound appreciation for the sun, which had just begun to shine through the grey clouds. How can one site differ from another that much? I mean, we're not talking across town or anything...strange days indeed.
Mike and Bill T showed up, and I was shown where some of the recent finds have been coming from. I couldn't ground balance the detector to save my life. This was definitely a trash pit. I had detected here before with Lowbatts a couple years ago, not in the same spot but nearby...and I thought THAT spot was trashy. Mainly, I was disgusted at the AMOUNT OF GARBAGE PEOPLE DUG UP AND JUST LEFT ON THE GROUND. For me to throw away. Thanks guys! Really appreciated that. No, I don't make myself believe that can tops are akin to silver dollars. Yeah, so the area is a lot cleaner now than it was before. I ended up with about twenty freshly-dug can tops that went straight into the garbage can.
Another honorable mention was the sight of some dude "performing" on another dude right in the Trash Pit. I've seen the Mushroom Hunters, we're all familiar with those guys. But there was a guy servicing another guy right where we were walking. Bill called them out amidst the felatio, and THAT was pretty effin' funny. ::shudder:: Yuck.
Anyway, yeah, no silver, but I dug a '25 buffalo that rang up as a quarter (??), some wheaties, and a Marine Corps button with intact shank. It was a lot of fun to be out with the bros, with great weather, and seeing some nice finds emerge.
I ended up leaving a little early with a pounding headache caused by dehydration. Damn, forgot the water. I forgot the Hostess Pudding Pie too. Those are required. Puddin' Pies and silver go hand in hand.
Until next time, happy hunting, good luck, and all that jazz,
Joe
Oh, I also found a marble.
