We started the day hitting a civil war camp that has been hit hard. 2 minutes into the hunt I hit a solid 18 on the nox. Pull the plug and out pops my first civil war two piece button......with the front missing. :sadsmiley: The back is pretty toasty but I can make out an "MOND" which makes me think its a richmond backmark. We searched all over the area for the front but never found it.

I also found my first cleaner bullet and musket ball, both I have been wanting for a while. I also found two of the bullets which are on the left, one looks to be carved. I'm not sure exactly what they are yet but i still like them.

Everything I found today was a first for me, so I consider it a pretty good day even if there wasnt that many quality finds.

Thank you! It was a good day for me

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Since you say you can only see MOND in your button-back's marking, here's the rest of it. "EML&C / Richmond Va". Made by E.M. Lewis & Company, a prolific manufacturer of Confederate Military buttons during the war. The company was formed in November 1861 and ended in April 1862 because the founders enlisted in the CS Army. (So, all the EML&C buttons were made during the 6 months between Nov. '61 and April '62.) The most common version by far of EML&C button is a "block letter I" CS Infantry button, so the statistics favor that type being what your button-back is from.

Nice finds VA. I'd take those Civil War bullets and button any day.

Thank you for the information! That’s awesome of you to provide for me
