Ran out of places to detect and thought I'd hit the old 1840 farm by work this evening. Dug up the usual iron targets(hey, we're talking 1840) including horse shoes and those round hitch post like thingies and a large knife or bayonet which I broke while prying up what I thought was another horse shoe. I soon tired of all the iron targets and bumped the discrimination up a notch. I saw a recently cleared area and moved in on a nice button. I think it's Civil War era U.S. marines and it's marked Scovill MFG CO Waterbury. I scanned the back fill dirt for a new patio and found a '42 merc.
