It's been pretty bleak for the most part in our area but I was able to get out to a spot that opened up for a day or so that has produced colonial/Rev War buttons in the past and was able to find two of them on one of my hunts. They are both small, brass, anchor stamped cuff/vest buttons from the British (or Continental Navy) circa 1774-1787.

Day 1 (button day)

Day 2 (just change and junk)

Day 3 (conditions really changed, way more sand pushed up)

Great hunts, very cool buttons, congratulations on all the saves

Awesome buttons! :occasion14:

Congrats on saving two buttons from the Rev War period. They are getting harder and harder to find.

Actually there is a big debate about that type of Button, both IP & I don't think its Royal Navy. Our best 'guess' (Not seen a proper ID yet) is that its merchant Navy.

Interesting, thanks for the info.....I've see a few sources that say Revolutionary War but also say that there were more than one die/design used so some of them look a little different from each other.

These were found in an area that has also produced French naval buttons and British Army buttons (pewter and brass I have one from the 62nd Reg of Foot) from the same period. A while back, they dredged offshore and used the sand to replenish the beach. Several of us suspect that they hit a pocket of stuff that may have been from the "Battle of The Capes" between the British and French Navy at the end of the war.

I have no issue with it being Rev War 'period' however, the Royal Navy Button Collectors I have contact with do not think its Royal British Navy.

Thanks Crusader! I appreciate the info, if anyone would know these things man, its you! I love seeing all the awesome things you and CruDad find!
