Got permission to hunt at a 2 room schoolhouse from 1823 . The pics are from 2 days of hunting it last week . 100_0404.webp This is the schoolhouse .100_0413.webp100_0417.webp100_0384.webp100_0406.webp100_0421.webp100_0424.webp The jewelry is a sterling diamond engagement ring and a sterling mans ring . A copper bracelet and a Tom Mix kids ring . Included in the pics are a few firsts for me A 1859 seated dime ......couldn't believe it when that popped out of the ground . A 1908 V-Nickle also a first for me and something I have been wanting to dig very badly . A 1864 2cent piece , my second 2 cent of the summer . A no date buffalo and a few indian heads of the following dates 1891,1882,1897,1890,and 1903 . The last 2 pictures I could really use some help in identifying . The lead militiaman figure has no marks or dates on it that I can find and im not sure what the shield piece is but it appears to be brass100_0425.webp100_0426.webp

The shield is a monogram plate for Motometers, radiator caps for cars "back in the day". You could order them with your monogram in a number of different fonts and styles.

I'd keep hitting that place, especially after a good soaking rain. Lots of history there.

Kool thank you very much for the info . One mystery solved . I knew you guys could help

Great ID on that motometer shield, Mirage. I have seen a couple of them posted here.
Great hunt. You made some awesome finds in both coins and jewelry!

Man what a place to hunt! I love old schools and that one is awesome! Way to go on some great finds :icon_thumleft:

That's a great result ! Good on you for working up the brass to ask permission - those kind of sites scare me because of how well
kept they are -and formal looking - they exude a vibe of "detectors not welcome here".

very awesome finds, had to an exciting hunt... got to be more there! congrats

Kinda had an in on the permission for that place . My sons babysitter is friends with the president of the board of directors for the historical association in charge of the property and the building . I was detecting at the babysitters house which is a parsonage for a church from 1853 . The board president showed up to visit while I was there . I was introduced to her and she asked lots of questions about metal detecting and saw that I left the lawn looking like no one had ever been there . I asked her if it would be possible to check out the school and she said I had free run of the grounds with the condition that if I found anything connected to the school I would donate it to the historical society . I of course agreed and this may lead to other locations as the historical society is in charge of 3 more 1800s schools and 2 churches from the late 1700s. So it pays to network whenever you can and leave it better then you found it.

Awesome building and awesome finds!

A heartfelt congratulations on all of your bucket list finds. I'm originally from Upstate NY (Woodstock) and did not start metal detecting till this January. I'm hooked and am planning a trip up to NY this fall with a fellow T-Net member. Here in NC we just don't have the age and history that can be found in NY. We are hoping to make at least a few good finds while up there.

Great site, great digs, nice work!

Sweet hunt there , lots of goodies, love that Seated also, only found one here so far, so that is definitely a great day !!

WOW! I like your approach on getting permission to detect. You can bet your bottom dollar that this kind of approach will open more sites for you. Well done! My favorite is the the Tom Mix ring and the lead solider. I'm still looking for my first seated.

OUTSTANDING FINDS! :notworthy:

Thank you for the positive posts . Im still looking for an id or some info on the soldier if anyone can help /

Wow, i am envious. Awesome history.
