I envy ya down under. Detecting there is the best in the world in my book. Every time I go there I get spoiled and looking at finds like that just bring back good feelings.

Thanks DDancer, we might not be a very old country, but your right, we have some great history in the short time we've been here.

These 'bronze' series of coins in the right conditions can come up good, sadly not in our ploughed fields. Whats nice is it not only came out good but the 1881 had very little wear before loss.

Yes, I have noticed most of my 1800's victorian coins come out better then the early 1900's Australian coins I have dug.
Check out this 1875 Victorian Penny.
I didn't even need to clean her, just washed the dirt off.

Yeap, the quality of the bronze metal was good & as long as the conditions of the soil are OK, then the above is the result. Nice green patina.
