Here are a couple fossils we found in a creek on my property in Elliott County, KY. We have a pretty diverse terrain, and these were located in one afternoon in a couple hours of messing around hiking with the family. I am pretty sure they are old plant fossils, as I have found very similar track patterns out on the internet. Just felt like sharing. Thanks, and oh yeah, I'm a new member to the website, although I've read all the Swift tales and such on here for a couple years. Have a great one!

Welcome to the forum! If you have any fossil or artifact related questions, me, Harry pristis, and gator boy seem to be some of the most active responders. But there are some many that most fossil identifications are made fairly quickly by someone on the forum. Yes what you've got there is the outer layer of a Stigmaria root or the bark of a lycopsid tree. Most likely from a Carboniferous tree.

Cool stuff.
I recently got two sections of pet. bark from northern Florida in a trade..one had a couple chips that showed agate on the interior.

This could be an impression of a cone.

What do you mean, like a pine cone that was mashed when the rock was formed? I wonder if the track-like pattern continues in between the layers? I don't want to break that top layer off, but it is tempting. It looks like it continues on into the rock.

That rock was basically mud at one time.
