I have been hitting a site for many years that housed several worker houses that supported a 19th century paper mill from about 1830 to 1910. I have found well over 200 buttons with at least a dozen of them military, large cents, IHPs, an 1827 Capped Bust Dime, a GAR badge, railroad locks and baggage tags, and lots of suspender clips among other things. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the end is near for this place. This weekend I worked a couple of the house sites that are only accessible during this time of year due to vegetation, and pulled a few things out.
A few buttons including a large tombac, a nice thimble, suspender clip with an 1856 patent date, 1909 V nickel, a porcelain button with little green starbursts, and part of a circa 1900 "Sokum Water Pistol"

The suspender clip is a fairly early one with a 1856 patent date. I don't think these really became popular until around 1850. I'll have to try and fit it into my frame of the better clips from this site.

The broken Sokum pistol

A couple finds from a short hunt in the neighbor's yard.

Gas lamp valve and other pieces for the scrap brass bucket

I hope to get some time in on some older dirt this weekend. Well pounded sites, but it only takes one good signal to make your day!
