The weather was great for 3 February, 41F/5C. Had dried off enough to hunt a plowed field, mud was not bad. Detected this field for about 3.5 hours this afternoon, there are two beer cellars to the left and right of the upper road. Hitler stood on the left cellar for a parade here, have found a few Nazi pendants around this area.

Five buttons I found.

Not sure what the first two pieces are but, the upper piece has a silver plating and the lower piece has a gold plating mostly around the inner circle. And two buckles.

The lead finds. Five musket balls, a fired and flattened lead bullet and two lead bail seals, the seal on the right is from a salt bag.

Harness pieces, lower right is a piece of heal plate.

An intact bell missing the clacker, hard to find an intact bell on a plowed farm field and was a surprise. A partial pipe, made of porcelain, surely of the last generation of this style. I hope to find an intact clay pipe some day.

I pictured all these together as I think it was a Rosary Necklace and found close together. I have had a few conversations with my Archaeologist friend about all the glass beads I have found. We think they are mostly Rosary beads as this area is predominately Catholic. They can still be 200-300 years old but not Celtic or Medieval.

Three copper coins in poor condition. This is the best side of them. Left is an 1839 or 1859, middle is a Heller no date and probably around the mid to early 1800s and right could be a late 1700 coin, it is paper thin. I had a nice relaxing hunt today. HH, Mike

Thanks for the nice comments! Civilman, that is wooden inlay in the cross but unfortunately, it will disintegrate soon and it is not in good enough condition to preserve it. Bob, it should be frozen solid here right now, February is our worst month, or should be, LOL. HH, Mike

Yep, weather here in germany hasn't been too bad for MDing at all. I haven't found any lead seals yet. Cool finds!! I am still looking for a whole cannonball or 2, but so far just pieces. When are you comming to baumholder?

Hey Viper, I'll be there Tuesday, have to deliver more parts and tools for the simulators. I also have an appointment, actually an interview in Trier at the Archaeology department for my detecting permit, I will let you guys know how it goes. I already know I will get it and a few of the stipulations involved. They will allow me to detect farm fields, construction type sites and land scheduled for development. I will NOT be allowed to detect forests and below the clay line as they consider that undisturbed areas. They may allow me to detect historical sites as long as they are on plowed farm fields where relics have the possibility of being destroyed. I will be there permanently around the end of March or beginning of April. HH, Mike

Mike great finds as usual - with regards to the wood disintergrating I was watching a doco on Egypt where they put a particular chemical on the rotten wood which makes it hard and preserves it - the archeology dept may give you some pointers on conservation if you think its worth saving.
