I havent been able to hunt much this spring, but finally got out to a new site that I had obtained permission to hunt last fall.... just before the ground froze.
About two weeks ago we got in an hour before the rains came.... during that time my son and I dug 10 flat buttons and he dug his first Large Cent in about 2 years after being gone for college. It was pleasantly surprised and hopeful we had found the homesite of a fellow who was buried nearby in the late 1700s per his headstone. I'm not sure if this is the spot, but if it was it was used a bit later than his passing. This spot is on none of my maps, I was only directed to it by the farmer who said there were some larger stones turned up in the spot every time it is plowed.
Today I was able to get back to the site - and dug a handful more buttons, the spoon bowl, and the spoon handles. One of them was this neat gilted button, with a crown and a handshake in the middle. Anyone recognize the design?
