Howdy Y'all,

A friend of mine in eastern Kentucky has known of my interest in NA artifacts, since we began finding them around our property and actively began hunting them in fields. He showed me his collection, which was mostly personally found items from eastern Kentucky, but were mixed with some that were given to him from PA and possibly FL. He got interested when he was a little kid because his uncle had some and they collected together. He even wanted to be an archaeologist at one point and documented everything that he found, making sketches. He only collected when he was young by digging in rock shelters and walking plowed fields in bottoms. He basically quit collecting when he turned 19 and went off to college. Here are some photos:

Here are some more:

IMG_2156.webpHe had at least three really nice celts (we didn't have time to go through his entire collection). The one on the left was my favorite. I had a really nice curvature to it.
IMG_2154.webpIMG_2155.webpa full groove axe. He had a 3/4 groove that was nicer, but I didn't get photos of it due to the late hour. He also had a pestle or two and some boxes that we didn't get to go through. I guess those will be for the next time...

He asked me how much I'd give him for the whole collection, but since I don't buy artifacts, I didn't make an offer.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

Many good solid pieces. He should be proud of it for sure. That awl looking piece is very nice.

Absolutely. He said that he had some bone awls that got burned up along with his uncle's collection.

I barely had time to get them out of the box and onto the table before I had to go. It was late and definitely not enough time to inspect and properly appreciate them all. Here's how they were stored:

I told him that he should get a nice case to display some of his favorites.

Yikes they will get chipped being like that.Getting a case would be a good idea and wrap up some of the rest with tissue or something.
