A gate latch or door latch.

Anyone have an idea about the time this type latch would have been used . I see reproductions of it but nothing s far as a time frame of when it was originally used.

Um I don't think is from screen door... tis odd one it is...

um... perhaps removing the dirt would help to see if there is some sort of mechanism under there.
