Good question Relic,

I wouldn't think so - but not sure - and is a Golden the same as a Silver
with tones and a notch ( sorry - don't mean to hijack your post )

I just posted a question in here on the Golden
but have'nt gotten any feedback.

Theres not much info on the Golden as compared to the Silver.

Well, Bill, it's looking like neither of us is going to get our questions answered...

Maybe we have to be patient .

I'm new here and not sure how quickly
people respond.
I like to take my time anyway when buying
something new - had a bad experience with the purchase
of my first new car years ago
and learned the hard way.....

I have a Golden Sabre Plus:(I'm gonna assume the tones are the same for the whole Golden Line of detectors). I hunt mostly for coins and the tones for the quarter, penny, and dime all sound pretty much the same(silver or clad). they are a "higher" pitch than what a nickel sounds like. The nickel is the lower tone, but depeding on depth it will sound as a double "beep" Now, the old stlye pull tabs sound just like the nickel but a single beep. Sound a little confusing, but its not. If you get a nice solid repeatable signal, regardless of the "pitch" DIG IT!!!! If you get a chirppy sound or one that breaks up alot, chances are its trash. The main thing is the repeatablilty of the signal. On my detector, you can notch out certain items, but something good is always in that notch window so I do not use it very often. The more you use the detector, the more you will get the sounds that come out of it. I dont like to be bothered with all that meter BS, All my hunting is done by ear.

Thanks for the feedback, chemist!

What are the tones on a Golden like? Are they similiar to the bings and bongs on an Ace 250 or are they softer and less annoying? The Ace in a trashy area drove me nuts.
Not even close. I have put the Ace 250 back in the truck, to use a Golden. All the binging and bonging of the Garrett can be just too much.
The Golden is much more subtle. There is none of the jumping around, even in trash. The tones can mix when you get alot of trash beneath the coil, and you have to give it time to get used to it. But it is nothing like the Ace.
