I had finally downloaded the new 2.0 Minelab for the Nox and had to get out and at least try it out. Only had about 30 minutes or so and had the 6" coil on. So I hit a trashy area hoping for a decent coin. managed two memorials and some odds and ends trash. One of the first targets was this thing that I first thought was just a dog tag/license/or a rabies tag. It was covered in rusty type corrosion that took some time to get semi clean enough to realize that it was in fact, a token from my home town. I had never heard of a Clift Bakery and neither has any other people (elderly) that I have asked. This was a very small town not to know anything about it. I have someone checking it out, so this could be considered a rare token as there has to have been a very small amount of them back then. I almost threw this into the trash bucket. Now know that it was made prior to 1922 and appears to actually be 3 cents and not 5 cents as first thought. the bakery was sold to the Burks in 1922

Very cool token & from the good ole days when you could get bakery bread for a $.05 token, congrats

That is very cool!! I love finding those old local tokens from my area. I have some that none of the elder folks remember also. I have found a few on token catalog .com before. if you have never tried that site it might help. Some of mine were on there but not all.

Way to go DL. I’d love to find a scalloped token at some point. They are so neat looking. Very cool

Nice find. Thanks for sharing...

That is a great find, local stuff is always best!! It is nice when you can turn a burnt piece of crust into a keeper!!!

Well done DL! That’s a really cool old token.

Probably depression era.

Great save Dirt Looter! Nice to see you are out detecting!

Nice token, Dirtlooter. What is it made out of? Some lemon juice and a brush may bring things back on it a little better.

Very nice scalloped edge token. Good thing you did not throw it away.

Thanks all for the comments, not sure what it is made of, bends easier than thought it would. My aunt belongs to a genealogy club made up of older people that are into local history, I sent her the pics and info to present to them to look at. History is cool(at least a lot of it is) and to find something that is from the early history of your home town is awesome. I may try to clean it up better to place in the old Depot where they have historical items from Mena. The moment something becomes a token, I get excited. Detecting is so fun and so cool!

up date on token found recently

it now appears after soaking in lemon juice to be 3 cents and not 5 cents. still trying to clean it better. also now know that it was made prior to 1922 as that was when the Bakery was sold to the Burks. so now have a time period of before 1922.
