I have read several accounts of people finding older coins in the reject chute of the CoinStar machines, but was kind of skeptical myself. I still will check every time I pass one because I do find modern coinage and an occasional token. Today I took the kids to the local Wal-Mart to rent them a movie on this chilly day and as we reviewed the Red-box selections, a guy dumped a couple of kids piggy banks into the CoinStar next to us. Sure enough after he left I checked the chute and found 21 cents which had been rejected, glanced at the coins as I picked them up and was shocked to find a '43 S Merc. I guess I am a believer now!

I'll have to try that.

All I ever find in those machines are foreign clad coins :sadsmiley:
Glad to see you found some good ol' American silver! :treasurechest::thumbsup:

Nice looking coin, I'll give it a try!

Oh yeah, you can believe it! I've found 2 Canadian loonies ($1.00 coins) in the past. No silver yet; but I keep looking. I missed a Merc like yours once when a guy checked the machine while I was standing right there talking to a friend! So now I check them every time I see one.
