Messin around in the garage today and pulled this out of my "scrap finds" bucket.I found it while diggin some bottles last summer.Thought Id try and make it shelf worthy. Now keep in mind that this is a semi-worthless 1920s iron...so no lectures on my radical treatment please ( I just wanted to share the pics).I do have an electrolosis tub but this didnt justify the special treatment. My cleaning consisted of tapping and scraping the heavy rust off. Then, abrasive cleaning in my sand blasting cabinet and finally a drenching in a mix of penetrating oil and black rustoleum immediately wiped off and dryed. It doesnt look painted when done ....just darkened.I have another on the shelf from a couple years back that shows no sign of cancer yet.

Just wanted to share....thanks...Joe

Joe - it cleaned up nice. Thanks for sharing.

That iron came out great. It would have taken a very long time with electrolysis. You did a great job.

That turned out great...I have alot of rusty iron I can send you if you want to practice ;)
