After finding a couple silvers yesterday I was inspired to get out again especially since the weather's been so nice. Went back to some woods I've been hunting lately but took off in a different direction, after digging some clad and shotgun shell head stamps finally got a sweet sounding signal, Out popped a 1923 Mercury dime. Checked the hole again and with it was it 1922 Wheatie.

After digging up more headstands and I got another decent signal, like a quarter, down about 7 inches I recovered what I thought was a copper or large cent, but to my disappointment I thought I recover a Asian play token, and boy was I wrong. What I discovered was a 1912 China, HUNAN PROVINCE 10 Cash coin Y# 399. Wow what a surprise. Don't know much about them other than what I just googled, so any information would be appreciated. Interesting coincidence, a week ago about a mile and a half away from this find I found a Chinese cash coin from the 1790s.

So why do I dig up so many shotgun head stamps? Well the next two finds sounds similar and VDI readings to the head stamps, so if I ignored them I never would've found the musketball and the round button.

I need help identifying this round button, I never found one before. I think it's very old possibly from uniform? I think it has gold guilt but not sure since there is no makers mark on the reverse. I don't think it's modern, any information would be appreciated. How old is it?

Nice fun day with a couple surprise finds!

Thanks for looking and happy hunting.

Lots of work is right but it looks like it certainly paid off! Good save on the merc! :icon_thumleft:

Good job of extracting the goodies from the trash! :occasion14:

Nice work on the Merc.
I think the 10 cash Hunam province coin is still good for the daily special at Wo Hop restaurant on Mott St. in NYC.
Congratulations

I'll trade for chicken and broccoli combo platter!

Nice digs. The ball button is military and from around 1830's-40's I believe. I posted one perhaps identical to yours in the What Is It section about a month ago and TheCannonballGuy identified it for me. Nice old relic there.:icon_thumright:

Two Chinese coins from two different centuries in two weeks...that is doubly special.

Ha-Ha,Kevin .Wo-Hops what a great place.I had many a great meal there in the 70's and 80's(lower level-cheaper),best food, rude waiters, long lines and sticky floors!Nice finds Dude.I would guess for woods hunts, you would use the Dues over the CTX?

I used the Deus, mostly use the Deus except in NYC parks that have a lot of modern trash that's where I use the CTX. Thanks for the reply Tom

I know what you mean digging all that junk but you were rewarded with some good finds WTG DD...

great finds, the shotgun headstamps are nearly a staple around here as are cartridge brass. and you are right, if you don't dig em, you can miss out on something better.

1922 Wheaties are rare coins. I see 1927 on yours. Nice merc!

DIGGING DUDE YOU ARE A RELIC DIGGING FOOL . LOL.

Sweet finds! I agree totally on digging the head stamps and shell casings. Not only could it be something better, but you can get paid for them at the recycling center.
