A monogram whatsit from the yard, anyone know anything about it?

Hi,
Found this little bugger in my yard last night.
JPI monogram, says Royce, NY on the back.

The penny is only for size reference.

Just rinsed it with water after it came out.

I was just coming on to write that my mother-in-law identified it immediately as a J.C. Penney Zipper Pull!

Did you ever found out anything about this charm? I've had one for years (I have no idea where it came from; I suppose I probably picked it up at a church sale, or something like that), but have never had a clue what it might be. Searching for information about Royce N.Y. jewelry yields exactly nothing, information-wise. My secret hope is that the initials might turn out to be something really odd or weird, rather than what they seem to be (J.C. Penny); I thought if I could learn a little bit about the company, maybe I could kind of make some educated guesses what this thing is (since Royce seems to have made a bunch of pendants with odd symbols on them, I suppose the letters could refer to just about anything....I hope; a low-end department store bad is far less interesting than some of the things the company made). Please let me know if you ever found any information!
