After hitting the cavalry camp a couple of days ago, and doing fairly well for my 2nd time there, my brother and I decided to make a day of it. It had been raining since last night, and there was a winter storm warning for ice today, but we were not going to let that stop us. This morning after he got off work, we met at 6:30 am at the site. Had a quick breakfast and were digging by 6:45. Ten minutes into the hunt, I found what had to be a campsite. I started digging bullet after bullet and 2 1/2 hours later I had dug approximately 60 bullets when I found the SNY buckle. I had to make 2 trips to the truck to unload my pouch. I started working my way back to the same area, but before I got there I hit a few signals, a few bullets and then a solid signal that was totally different from the rest! I couldn't believe when I pulled up a wreath from a 2-piece buckle. I was really excited and went to show my brother (DCooper1). He said to hit the area hard and hopefully the other piece would be there. Twenty minutes later, my machine was screaming once again. I just knew, it had to be the 2nd piece, only 15 feet from where I found the wreath. I hollered to my brother and started to dig the hole, but he was yelling that he wanted to get it on video for everyone to see. Amazingly, I had 2 signals in the hole which you will see in my brothers video. When I unearthed the tongue and saw that it had "CS" on it, I was totally speachless... I knew that I had found "the Holy Grail" of relic hunting! I should take this moment to thank my brother, David, for encouraging me to start metal detecting, when I thought I just didn't have the time to take on yet another "hobby" in my life. I have been digging for 16 months now, and found things I never would've dreamed of. I consider myself very fortunate, and mostly, very lucky in this aspect. I hope you enjoy the pictures, and the video my brother will be posting.
