I don't feel like I get to contribute to this forum very often so when I do I try to make it interesting.

While looking for a hike I noticed a strange shape on a satellite image. I believed it was the remains of an Indian ruin and it turns out... I was right. I've been to other ruins in the same general area but this one was not on any maps and I can't find it on any forums or discussion boards. I don't know if I'm the first person to discover this place since its abandonment but there are absolutely no signs of recent human activity. No footprints, no litter, no trails, nothing. And I'd like to keep it that way. lol

The walls are about 3ft - 4.5ft high and make a large rectangle with an area of 1800 square ft. This site is unusual because instead of being built on a hilltop like other pueblos in the area, its built up against the base of a hillside about 25 yards from a creek.

Aside from a few pottery shards in the creek nearby, there wasn't much for artifacts. A wildfire ripped through this area a long time ago and inside the ruin you could still see charred debris. If there was anything left here (pottery, tools, etc.) I have a feeling it was destroyed by the fire.

I'm pretty sure I've located another site nearby but I'll save that adventure for a cooler day.

Another thing I discovered today... Did you guys know that ladybugs bite?!? Ouch!

Hope you disabled the gps coordinates, or tomorrow the place will be solid footprints !

Very cool, I would do what uniface said.

I made sure to crop out the coordinates from the google earth photo before I posted it! lol

Are you fairly confident that it is native american? Spanish sheep herders built corrals similar to that and used them as night traps to hold livestock. Some are very old...just a thought. Thanks for sharing.

Ladybugs or asian beetles?
Asians look exactly like ladybugs but they are more "orange" than red...
And they DO bite.
We have lots of them in Wisconsin.

I mean, I'm not complaining about lack of ancient activity here in Ohio, but you guys in the SW are so lucky to have ancient pueblos (and, like PalelO mentioned, Spanish ruins) that are still standing! I visited AZ and NM a few years ago and visiting those historical sites and ruins was one of the best parts of the trip.

Congrats on the discovery!

Interesting.... maybe it wasn't a lady bug then.

I appreciate the input, though I'm fairly confident it's Native American. The standing walls match the construction of nearby pueblos. Several other sites in the area have been well documented by archaeologists in the past. But usually the pueblos are built up on a high hill, not at the bottom of a valley so I'm keeping my mind open to all possibilities.

Thanks. One thing I really appreciate about this forum is seeing the different artifacts people find based on the area that they live in. Its cool to see how each culture lived based on the things they left behind.
