A newbie's first finds from the beach

Today was only my third day out and I'm getting better about the sounds and adjustments. I would have stayed out on the beach longer, but gale force winds are blowing! Whew - welcome to Cape Cod! I know that the pics (Day 1, 2, & 3) are nothing to write home about, but I'm happy with the success I'm having so far. The recent storm seems to have dumped a boatload of sand on the beach, so I'm finding more stuff in the dry sand than in the wet. My first day I didn't have a clue what I was doing! I found 2 coins and a pile of junk. The oldest coin is a 1964 nickel, found yesterday. The boat oarlocks, today, were about 20 feet apart and I also found the world's smallest Coleman lantern. The Hall China breadplate piece, today, is from circa 1908-1910.

I love my new hobby!!

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

Looks like you both kept busy and had fun! :)

On see on Day Two you found a little piece o a harmonica reed... a regular find from any victorian/CW era locations... Once you get the trash cleaned up and discriminate a little bit the older/cooler finds might come popping up instead!

You never know what comes from the beaches!

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

You can be proud of the fact that you have quite possibly saved someone from a painfull cut and a tetanus shot.

Officials should be shaking your hand, giving you the key to the city, and inviting you to detect on any and all public property.

WE ARE THE MOST EARTH FREINDLY HOBBYISTS ON THE PLANET!!!!!

WHY CAN'T EVERYONE SEE THIS!!!!

We improve soil and water quality, and remove tons of trash on land and in the water every year, including some harmful items such as batteries and lots of lead.

Hey!! We should have a trash forum to post pics of all the junk we find, and the total weight, and add it all up each year. We could use it in public relations formats.

Thank you for your efforts, and may you find lots of silver and gold!!

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

My buddy and I were metal detecting a volleyball court and some people came up who wanted to play. They ask us if we've found anything, we show them a couple of rusted nails, and they say thanks for saving their feet!

I like the idea of a "dangerous junk retrieved" forum to post all the stuff that is dangerous that we remove! I bet there'd be alot of stuff there!

It's really great to see you're having fun. . . the thrill is always in the hunt.

Take care,

Good digs! keep at it!HH

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

Watch out for the vending machine that key fits into.

And keep in mind that somewhere theres a rowboat that lost its oarlocks and likely floundered taking its crew and treasure chest down to Davey's locker.

Nice finds Tippy!

I Like that little Colman lantern!

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

Wow, thats freaky just how much that looks like the stuff I found in my old 1950 Chevy. If you haul out all the junk, eventually only treasure will be left.

Re: A newbie's first finds from the beach

Welcome to Tnet, Tippy. Nice variety of finds you got there. I like beach hunting myself and sometimes can't believe the stuff I find on the beach.

Read the forums here, you'll learn a lot.
