Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I hit my 1880s farmhouse permission a couple times this week. My best find was probably this 1864 two cents coin. While by no means a rare coin, I love the unusual denomination and the Civil War era date. Also found a nice 1900 Barber dime. It only sounded a high tone in one direction, so I wasn't expecting much - glad I dug it! The last item of interest is this unidentified piece of metal. It looks reminiscent of the metal and markings you would see on an 18th or early 19th century crotal bell. I have no idea what it is or what it was part of, though it looks oddly familiar. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks for checking out my post. Happy hunting!

That 2 center is in great condition!

That's a fine looking 2cent. The mystery piece might be a mid 17th - to early 18th century saddle pommel (saddle horn). I think something similar has been posted on Tnet in the past. Not sure on the time period.

I like the two center, wait for it,too!!Really great find and I appreciate the oddity of it,imagine the look you,d get if you laid that out to pay for your Coke at the 7-11!

Nice finds! Yep saddle pommel, I've found a few myself.

You have some nice coins there.

Yeah. I've never seen one in person, but would love to find one. I think that's a very cool relic.

Great looking copper, very cool relic that is indeed. Well done.

Congratulations you made some fine recoveries!

Your 2-center is very sharp. I share your enthusiasm for this particular coin. Always a pleasure to pop one out of a hole...doesn't happen very often. The saddle Pommel is very interesting. I don't think I've ever found anything like that. Congrats!

Great saves!!!

Wow! That 2 center is nice! Great hunt!

Very nice 2-cent piece, congrats! :occasion14:

Thanks! I usually prefer coins with a portrait, as they have more personality. However, I really like the 2-cent piece, as it is such an elegant design. They are tough to come by, as you say. The saddle pommel was definitely a bonus. I have never found one either, at least I hope I haven't, because I might have thrown it away. Good luck out there. Hopefully the heat, humidity, and rain subsides soon, as the detecting has been tough.
