Went for a little hunt to one of the spots on the St-Laurent river not far from Montreal. The water is extremely low this time of year, lots of old pottery and pieces of the clay pipes just laying on the ground.
Found a nice lion head military buckle (1812 or before) seems to have been gold gilded at one point. Hard to say it's use or regiment it belonged to. If anyone can help, would be nice.
A Canadian Volunteers pewter pretty destroyed button ( again War of 1812 or before)
Some really cool old pottery (I don't know why I pick them up all the time, just find them really neat)
A washed British half penny (usually 1790-1810 on that particular spot).

Thanks for your comments.

Very unusual buckle and a cool find! :occasion14:

Very nice buckle, pretty sure you can't attribute to any particular regiment. These came in all shapes & sizes, & in double versions, & were used for 100+ years in various forms. Yes, I think all were gilt. Very nice find, I've yet to get one.

I was wondering if it might have been made that way, and not a broken double, as I do believe I have seen them before. Would be a pretty clean break if it was a double.

I'm pretty sure it's a complete piece as it doesn't have any rough edges.

I now recall something very similar, was smaller, but the same idea.
