This is a classic Hernando, named after the county, they are usually a thin and well made point and this is the only black one 4275B628-67DE-4F3B-B9DA-7D751813407C.webpBC691950-BB5B-4345-A9D6-57ECC88EF5A9.webp1AD96319-7B3D-46D9-B999-BDFCC658AF13.webp53C4F60E-FC3C-4E20-8D2A-8372D27C9FBF.webp34B78820-205C-49AC-AB3E-1A93F4DBE807.webpCF512D3C-5D45-4993-AF11-936C6ADBEEDD.webp I have, I like black points, they’re not common in Southwest Florida

I love the material of that one. We have them up here in Southwest Georgia but, they aren't too common and most everyone of them that I've found has been broken.

Love it H.P., that's a straight up killer.

I like it! Very fine example of the type. Thanks for sharing it HP...

Nice point! It is a beauty! Thanks for sharing!

I'd like to hear from some of the knowledgeable people here on what material that might be. I have found points before that resemble the material but I'm pretty certain it would have been traded into this area. I don't know of any naturally occurring black rock...but that doesn't mean there isn't! That stuff looks like rhyolite to me. Mine might be a little more glossy, even with river wear. Anybody have any ideas?

Anybody have any ideas?,,this point was found along the Homasassa River, Florida,on an island low level midden campsite infused with brackish water..the result of a sea level rise, over a couple of thousand years resulting in the present bluish black patina...it’s made from fossil chert.thanks for the question..I basically have to wait for a question, cuzz it’s too time consuming to detail on original post.

Thanks for the response HP. I'll have to dig mine out if I can find it and post it. I don't believe mine is stained, but a naturally black material but I'll have to find it to review it. I believe mine was a blade and not Hernando but found in a location not far from yours.

Couple of shots of the black blade. After comparing, they don't look that close in color.
