After seeing the post by pax_in_ma, I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the nice V nickel I found last fall. I was surprised how nice it was, as it was on the ground. But apparently the rocky ground held it off the soil, so it didn't corrode very much. I found it at an old mining town in California called Silverado.

Yes I agree a unique 1900 V nickel find (what are the odds that it would be laying on top of the ground) and congrats to you & thank you for posting your picture & story. Wish you many more great finds while out dirt fishin.

Thanks, guys. Funny that I actually saw it, before the coil went over it. The ground was nothing but gravel....no dirt....probably why it was in such nice condition.

I've only ever found two of these and neither are anywhere near this nice. Great find, and thanks for sharing.
 

Nice coin, I have dug 2 or 3 of them and they are all trashed.

I would be stoked to find that.
