Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 350
Next week I am getting a DFX300 from Kellyco and as you probably know they are having a buy one get one sale. So I can add the Viper Trident to my order for $80.00. I don't know much about this detector but was wondering if you all knew anything about it.

I'd like to use it to hunt the numerous inland lakes of West Michigan,

What do you think

Thank you

IMHO save your $80.00

Like Erikk said if I was you I would save your money....... I tested one at Kellyco when I first decided to get in the hobby, after 10 mins I knew I wanted nothing to do with it.

About the cheapest submersible would be the HeadHunter Pirate series, see if they have those available.

I think those nice folks at kellyco could find a better machine for you if you came up with more $'s.

Thanks for the input, I guess I'll just save the money.

To each his own I guess. I've got a Viper Trident and so far am pleased with it's performance. Then again, I'm just a "newbie" to this hobby but when I decided to buy, Kellyco was having a sale on the Viper and I ordered it while working in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and had it shipped to my home in Texas. When I got home and opened the package, I found that Kellyco had shipped me the Viper Trident instead of the Viper. Thought they had made a mistake and was gettin ready to call them when I noticed on the bottom of the shipping invoice this..."Currently out of stock on the Viper so we are shipping you the Viper Trident at no extra charge."

Please realize that I haven't really put the Trident to the test of diving with it (as yet) but it has never failed to alert me when anything....and I do mean anything....was anywhere near the coil on the beach. So far I've hunted some of the Texas beaches with it and also a few beaches in Florida while on vacation there.

One of these days I'll post my BIG find with my Trident and put all doubt aside. ;D

I got one as a BOGO with my F-75.

This was before reading all the bad reviews for it!

I haven't put it in the water yet, so durability and longevity are still up in the air, however, I have noticed a couple of things about it in testing it around the yard.

One thing, there seem to be some improvements to the battery door since the manual was printed.

And most importantly....It seems that if you do the OPPOSITE of what the manual says about coil swing, speed....it works a lot better!

The manual says swing slowly, but you don't get good depth, and actually miss some targets, however, if you swing it at a faster pace, it reads the targets WAY better. That will make pinpointing and recovery a little harder, but that's why they make big sand scoops!

Just some preliminary observations.

I would never pay list price for it, but for $80....I think it is fine.

Yeah,...I dont know if Id pay list, but I would definately go 80-100 for one just for kicks!!
