I've been detecting for close to six months now. When it comes to coins I have dug over a hundred pre-decimal copper coins, over fifty silver coins, and over a hundred modern coins.

I only have a few old copper coins that have somehow managed not to corrode, the early Australian Penny's seem to be the worst when it comes to deteriorating.

So, while not that exciting, this was still a rare save for me.
It's also the first Australian minted Penny.

That's in great shape. Super save!

That's beautiful. Looks to be in perfect shape. Congratulations.

Oh yeah very nice !! Congrats on the copper save =)

Thanks guys

Thank you for sharing your hunt and those pictures

very nice coin, I can see why you are excited about it

Yeah, funny how only a select few get through like that. Looks very nice, in some ways I think it looks better than the tone you get from never being in the ground & in the drawer.

Beautiful coin! :occasion16::wav::occasion16:

You've done super detecting job in your first 6 months - wow! :icon_thumright: Andi

That's one beautiful coin.

Thanks again for the comments :)

I agree Crusader, I find that tone more appealing then a non-dug coin too.

Thanks G-olden years :) I have always wanted to do it, I'm a late starter at 38.
Last couple of years have been tough for me so I decided to finally get a detector, for a reason to get away from it all.

I think I'm just fortunate to live in an area that has not been heavily detected, and I have put many many hours into it over the last few months.
And the weather has been kind.

Here is a pic of my silver coins

A few copper keepers

And the not so pretty ones

My (semi)key date finds would be this 1879 narrow date Victoria Penny

And my oldest silver

Thanks Mick :)
I always dream of seeing those numbers as I wipe the dirt from the date :)

Wow that is for sure a great looking coin, I love your collections, your copper collection is very cool, not to mention that silver. You have been a busy boy and very successful. I'm thinking you must not have allot of competition or your on a rare virgin site/s, which is it?

Thanks Treblehunter.

I have put many hours both researching and hunting. I know there are few other guys around the area also detecting, so I am always surprised to find the sites I try are usually virgin.
So I'd say it's a combination of being a busy boy and doing my home work.

And I work at night/early morn, so i get plenty of chances to get out :)

Now that coin is in REALLY nice shape [for a dug coin].

That's a nice coin!
What region are you from?
Quite hard these days to find a good place to hunt.
