Out for a hunt this morning in an area with activity back to mid 1700s. I found this. Any thoughts on type and age? It’s small!

I have no thoughts on this other than yes, it is small. Interesting find that I'd bet would lead to more in the area.

This appears to be a single frame iron buckle similar to the middle picture with these examples excavated from 1775 to 1777 - used on cartridge boxes, harnesses, and other leather straps. Size and rounded edges seem like a fit but who knows for sure ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1570930871.547839.webp

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I’m no buckle expert, but it look very similar to buckles I find on sites I have in the 1880-1920 date range.

Agreed on the date range & it's a horse harness buckle.

Exactly, late-19thc brass harness or horse tack buckle.
